OPERATIONS
Ark House can best be described as a network of caring and resourceful volunteers with no brick and mortar storefront. The only "office" is a telephone kept by a volunteer who manages resident placement. There have been no paid staff members in the group's 26 year history. Approximately 20 volunteers make up the board of directors including people from different walks of life. Monthly board meetings are held to discuss the organization's immediate needs and to plan ahead.
Subcommittees include:
- Facilities and Maintenance
- Family/Patient Placement and Orientation
- Fundraising and Development
- Public Relations and Communications
- "Shepherd" Recruitment/Assignment
- Social Services Coordination
To estimate the number of hours volunteers have donated to this project in the past 26-years would be challenging--thousands, maybe tens of thousands of hours.
But recognition isn't why Ark House volunteers do the work that needs to be done. What is important to the dedicated volunteers, groups and companies contributing their time, talent, and monies is being able to provide for the vital and basic needs of families coping with serious illness.
